What kind of power would you like?
I would like the power to heal.
How would it manifest? What would enable it?
I would like to heal the earth, its people and plants and animals to
make it a safe and beautiful place.
I would use my super mental powers, intuition, vast knowledge and personal strength.
What do you admire most about Frida Kahlo and "Freda" Josephine Baker?
That they didn't conform to any conservative narrow minded view of what a woman should be or do.
What do you think of when you think of them?
Frida Kahlo had a wonderful imagination. (I chose to write about FK for my final Art History essay). Josephine Baker had a wonderful sense of fun and who can forget her banana skirt!
Who is your superhero contemporary or imagined?
The colourful witch. (haven't come up with a name yet)
What would you change in Melbourne? Australia? The world?
Melbourne - get rid of cars
Australia - get rid of racism and psychopath pollies
The world - world peace, of course, sustainable practices and an end to poverty.
Are there any other issues that are important to you? Locally? Globally?
There are lots of issues. Locally and internationally its the massive number of homeless people, our treatment of asylum seekers, the removal of aboriginal people from their communities, governments just doing the bidding of the greedy big end of town (which lets face it is corruption), poverty, racism, discrimination, inadequate transport systems, treating drug addiction as a crime rather than a health issue, the lack of separation of religion and state, sending our young men off to unjustifiable wars, the destruction of our forests, the extinction of earth's animals due to human activity and the extreme amount of violence against women!
Do you feel like change is possible in these areas? How?
Never give up the struggle for truth, justice, peace, respect and loving this planet. If we don't fight we lose.
Do you think your ideas could change anything?
Yes they already have. ;)
Are you comfortable speaking your mind/putting ideas into the world?
Absolutely. Yep because I'm a know-all.
Do you consider yourself a feminist? Womanist? Why/why not? What does this mean to you?
I have been a feminist since I was 16 and very active in my twenties and thirties. Feminism means all women and girls finally realising their power, talent, beauty and wisdom.
How often do you subconsciously/consciously think about your desired superpower when you dress on a daily basis?
I usually think "I wish I didn't have to get out of my pyjamas."
