What kind of power would you like?
As long as I can remember, I always dreamed (literally) of flying. The feeling of flight and freedom in those dreams was so exhilarating that I can still remember them today, as an adult.
How would it manifest?
I think the most poetic way would be to have giant feathered wings sprout from my back at will!
Who is your favourite superhero, contemporary or imagined?
Astro Boy - a robot boy who fights crime and injustice. It's classic Japanese manga. I was obsessed as a kid.
What inspires you about Frida and Freda?
They were both women out of time. Their values would be more at home in today's world. They were groundbreakers who had the fortitude and pluck to follow their convictions.
What do you think of when you think of them?
I think of my two young daughters - I hope that I can raise them to embody the qualities of these women, particularly how passionately they lived their lives.
What would you change in Melbourne? Australia? The world? Where to begin?
There are too many issues to mention. I think almost all issues have a singular source - mankind's destructive tendancies. So if I could change one thing, I would endow people with a greater sense of empathy (maybe that should be my superpower!).
Are there any other issues that are important to you? Locally? Globally?
The issues closest to my heart concern nature, animals and the environment. They are the things I draw happiness and inspiration from.
Do you think your ideas could change anything?
Definitely. Not necessarily on a global scale, but I'm content to know that I'm affecting change in my own life and hope that it influences those around me.
Are you comfortable speaking your mind/putting ideas into the world?
Yes, but I also try to be tolerant of the beliefs of others even if they are at odds with my own. I let my actions speak in place of words mostly, and hope that this inspires others.
Do you consider yourself a feminist? Womanist? Why/why not? What does this mean to you?
I'm certainly a feminist in that I believe in equality of the sexes. I can't conceive why anyone would not support this. I was surprised recently when Lana Del Rey declared feminism to be '...just not an interesting concept'. I think that half of the battle for feminism is winning women to the cause, along with men.
How often do you subconsciously/consciously think about your desired superpower when you dress on a daily basis?
I suppose subconsciously my desire for the power of flight may have manifested itself as a preference for airy, flowy, loose fitting clothes. I'd never thought about this before, but I'll definitely be more conscious of it now!
