If you had a superpower, what would it be? How would it manifest?
I would want to be able to stop the suffering of innocent beings with my left hand and make a protective force field around them with my right hand, like a beam so I could do it from a distance.
Who is your favourite superhero, contemporary or imagined?
My favourite superheroes are Captain Planet because he cares for animals and the environment and Jesus because he has billions of dedicated fans world wide who build gorgeous structures to him compared to regular superheroes who have Comic Con.
What inspires you about Frida and/or Freda?
Freda for being a resistance fighter, both against racism and the Nazis, being mother to a rainbow family of adopted children, all the while being a total sex goddess. Frida for her individuality and strength in the face of chronic pain and her personal style and use of colour.
What would you change in Melbourne? Australia? The world?
What would I change in Melbourne, Australia...I don't think the values that are driving the country reflect the values of the people, I hope it's all about to change for the better because I feel like we are at a fork in the road in terms of who we are to be and I think this country should be and deserves to be it's best, most humane self. I believe on a global scale that environmental issues are the most important; we are not in control of the universe.
Ps on that last note, we live in the most extraordinary mind blowing natural wonderland, if we fuck it up for what is basically unimportant and unnecessary then we are a pack of assholes.
What would you change in Melbourne? Australia? The world?
I would change the attitude that the environment and animals exists purely to support humans in the here and now. I would love to see humans make decisions from a point of feeling ourselves in relation to other beings, other humans and to the natural world.
Are there any other issues that are important to you? Locally? Globally?
Yes, the suffering of innocent beings and the destruction of the environment is always important, though it's hard to take it all in.
Do you feel like change is possible in these areas? How?
I hope so! I believe in the power of the meeting of like minds and passions and in educating children. I also believe in the power of ethical business, especially big business, if consumers can change the way big business operates (which it is slowly in some cases) that is very powerful.
Do you think your ideas could change anything?
Again I hope so. In small instances yes, I believe so, maybe one day they will become big instances or many instances will join together.
Are you comfortable speaking your mind/putting ideas into the world?
Yes.
Do you consider yourself a feminist? Womanist? Why/why not? What does this mean to you?
Yes, because I’m a woman. To me this means gratitude for the women who have fought and worked for me to have such a comparatively liberated life and an obligation to keep it up, how ever I can, because there is still so much room for improvement. I’m still learning what that means.
How often do you subconsciously/consciously think about your desired superpower when you dress on a daily basis?
Not very often, I don’t think my outside reflects my inside, I wish it did more but there’s not time and energy for everything I guess.
