If you had a superpower, what would it be?
It would have to be in one way or another, to stop violence/sexual abuse and inequality towards women all over the world. I would like every male that belittled a female to swap bodies with that particular women and be stuck there for 24 hours so he could feel the fear, the hurt, the feelings of being demoralised and the inhumane treatment from one being to another just because of their genitals. We are living in 2014 and it blows my mind that freedom for all females in the world is not a given. It makes me furious.
How would it manifest?
It would manifest because when the male was swapped with the female and actually felt what these males were putting the women through, they would wake up, get back in their bodies and next time they saw this ill treatment, they would say something. Stop it somehow. Even to challenge that behavior to another male. They would learn to love their daughters and see them as equal human beings and not just slaves to the male penis.
Who is your favourite superhero, contemporary or imagined?
Robin Hood, to steal from the rich to give to the poor.
Turia Pitt is pretty darn amazing. To go through what she did and have a 'never say die' attitude is so inspiring. She's real, raw, no bullshit and a perfect mentor for young women. My mother also gets a special mention here. She has been through some intense shit in her life and has taught me I am below no one and no better than anyone else.
What do you admire most about Frida Kahlo and "Freda" Josephine Baker?
Frida Kahlo. To be honest, I don't know a lot about "Freda".
What do you think of when you think of them?
I think of owning it, inner power and standing tall.
What would you change in Melbourne? Australia? The world?
Easily, gay marriage rights. How embarrassing to be in a developed country who is rich in everything and still not have gay marriage as a right and part of the 'law'.
Are there any other issues that are important to you? Locally? Globally?
Rape. It is so common it's almost become somewhat 'normal'. Especially in other countries. Sex slavery, female circumcision, women's suppression, violence against women. Sometime I wonder if we as women were physically stronger than men, how much more harmonious the world would be...
Do you feel like change is possible in these areas? How?
I do feel change is possible even it is going to be a slow process. Education and voice. LOUD AS HELL.
Do you think your ideas could change anything?
Why not? Anything is worth a shot for the greater good of this earth.
Are you comfortable speaking your mind/putting ideas into the world?
When I was younger I was much more fearful. Fearful of consequences, being ridiculed, what people thought. Now I am surrounded by so many amazing souls, men and women, that I speak my opinion.
Do you consider yourself a feminist? Womanist? Why/why not? What does this mean to you?
Yes, I do consider myself a feminist, if it needs to be labeled as such. I care about equality and women and the inner beauty we were all born with.
How often do you subconsciously/consciously think about your desired superpower when you dress on a daily basis?
I don't think about it so much when I dress, but I think about it every time I witness something in society.
