What kind of power would you like?
To make truth visible.
How would it manifest? What would enable it?
How would it look?
I guess that depends on what true, and what's not.
Who is your favourite superhero/person/public figure, contemporary or imagined?
For the purpose of this project. I chose Oshun - a Nigerian Orisha of love.
What do you admire most about Frida Kahlo and "Freda" Josephine Baker?
It's always admirable to hear a persons story. I like that they both chose to tell their story through challenging societal standards of what is normal and accepted.
What do you think of when you think of them?
Everyone has a story. It's powerful to think about how owning your own story can bring to light a part of somebody elses.
What would you change in Melbourne? Australia? The world?
Melbourne/Australia needs a better basketball league/association.
So many talented male and female ballers without a college competition to work toward.
Australia is so big. There's so much room for it.I don't want to get carried away with ideas about changing the world when children, adults and the elderly are still starving while I sit at a desk and eat half a packet of cookies because I'm bored.
Are there any other issues that are important to you? Locally? Globally?
Mental wellness is something I think should be important to everyone.
Do you feel like change is possible in these areas? How?
On the other end of the Mental Wellness is Mental Illness.
It's so appropriate for people to understand how mental illness can affect the lives of you and the ones you love. There are so many ways to help yourself or support someone who is experiencing symptoms of mental illness. It starts with acceptance.
Humanness is humanness.
Do you think your ideas could change anything?
I work in the area, and I see change often. Its amazing to see how art and self-expression can change self-perception and build self-esteem.
Are you comfortable speaking your mind/putting ideas into the world?
Almost too comfortable.
Do you consider yourself a feminist? Womanist? Why/why not? What does this mean to you?
I think the idea of being a feminist or a womanist has has been and always will be twisted.
But the oppression of women is a real experience. How it manifests today is different for everyone, but majority of people I surround myself with know it exists.
So, to the man that told me he'd employ me to smile, look pretty and clean up his mess.. I see you but your mess is yours.
How often do you subconsciously/consciously think about your desired superpower when you dress on a daily basis?
Everyday. My style is my truth as far as visibility goes.
