What kind of power would you like?
The power I would like is that of a healer to illuminate all people into living meaningful lives. To embrace the individual that is our true selves and having the courage to love ourselves and celebrate our own uniqueness.
How would it manifest? What would enable it?
It would manifest by staying true to myself and not wavering into being a cardboard cut out for societies’ approval. My commitment would enable it to grow and be steadfast.
Who is your favourite superhero/person/public figure, contemporary or imagined?
My favourite person is Vali Myers.
What do you admire most about Frida Kahlo and "Freda" Josephine Baker?
What I admire most about Frida Kahlo and "Freda" Josephine Baker is their complete surrender to celebrate themselves and stay connected to their chosen paths.
What do you think of when you think of them?
When I think of them I feel strong and that I too can live by example. They are my peers.
What would you change in Melbourne? Australia? The world?
I would love to see artists celebrated, supported and acknowledged. I would get rid of the "tall poppy" syndrome in Australia. I would like greater connection and recognition of ALL Artists. I would like to see the female artist in whatever her expression is, equally represented in all forms of art.
Are there any other issues that are important to you? Locally? Globally?
Other issues that are important to me are our beautiful Earth and our appalling abuse and mistreatment of our planet. If I hear of one more conference to talk about global warming without any action being taken I think I will SCREAM!
Do you feel like change is possible in these areas? How?
I tend to lead by example. I have a son and he is also creative. I feel that as a parent the way I can change the world is through my input into other human beings. Hopefully it will have a rippling effect like on water Through these exchanges people will reach out and influence each other to live a life of passion, heart felt identity and emotional intelligence.
Do you think your ideas could change anything?
I live in an affluent suburb and lament at these false symbols of self. Mercedes, Audi etc. I do however appreciate their gardens as I walk along the streets.
Are you comfortable speaking your mind/putting ideas into the world?
Maybe in my area people can see that I am an artist and these observations can plant a new seed. I remember when I was young there was this woman who sat on the footpath at the side door to a gallery. She left her print on my mind. Maybe I can offer someone an unsuspecting freedom.
Do you consider yourself a feminist? Womanist? Why/why not? What does this mean to you?
My soul rages at the inequality of life in whatever sector of society it permeates and longs for the day when people are not defined by what they own but who they are as real people. I think I am a humanistic, lover of life. To me this means that people and the Earth need to unite and re-invent themselves for the good of all life.
How often do you subconsciously/consciously think about your desired superpower when you dress on a daily basis?
I feel I am a bit of a changeable chameleon and dress to express myself on each new day. I feel my clothes emphasise a different part of my personality that I am taking out.
